Pat Murphy, Morning Interview

September 20th, 2006 by Matthew Slutsky

Day 2
9:10 AM ET.

Mornin’ sunshine.

Just did an early morning interview with Patrick Murphy. He’s running in PA-8, one of the hottest contests in America.

Murphy was down to earth, had a great Philly accent, and definitely won’t be pushed around by his opponent. He’s badass and needs to win this race.

We are headed back to downtown Philly to finish the show on Net Neutrality and we’ll have that posted by late-afternoon.

Hit us with some comments on the blog- we’re getting lonely in the minivan. While I was excited about the trip, I definitely take into account the fact that I would have to spend all this time with Peter and Josh. They’re nice people, but it’s only day two and I want them to go away. Just kidding.

Ok, getting onto I-95 South headed back to the city. We will write more later.

Check out Murphy’s op-ed in today’s Philly Daily News with co-author Senator John Kerry on Iraq.

Pennsylvania Primaries Update

May 17th, 2006 by Joshua Skaroff

Yesterday was primary election day in Pennsylvania, featuring several highly contested races and some wonderful and revealing results.

  • Bob Casey Jr. and Radical Rick Santorum both won their primaries handily. Santorum was unopposed while progressive (and pro-choice) Dems Alan Sandals and Chuck Pennachio garnered only 7% and 8% respectively. Time to actually campaign Bob.
  • Lois Murphy, who nearly beat Bush/DeLay pocket congressman Jim Gerlach in 2004, won the primary for the Pennsylvania 6th Congressional seat. Lois is one of DoubleSpeak’s favorite candidates and could definitely use your help. Also a winner was Iraq war vet Patrick Murphy in PA-08.
  • Finally, the commonwealth’s top two Republican State Senators, Senate President Pro Tempore Robert C. Jubelirer and Majority Leader David J. Brightbill (R., Lebanon) both lost their primaries. Nearly a dozen other incumbents seem poised to lose their bids signaling massive discontent in PA with both Republicans and the incumbent Republican Senate.

There was also a great win by Democrat Andrew Dinniman in a 53% R/30% D/17% I state senate district. A good day, despite the loss of netroots faves Anne Dicker and Chuck Pennachio. But regardless, a banner day for Democrats and Pennsylvanians.
