Thoughts And Prayers

April 13th, 2007 by Peter Slutsky

As you probably know by now, Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) was critically injured in an automobile accident last night while driving on the New Jersey Turnpike. Reports reveal that the Governor was not wearing a seal belt at the time of the accident.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Governor Corzine, his family and the people of New Jersey.

DoubleSpeak wishes the Gov. a speedy recovery!

Early Exit Polls

November 7th, 2006 by Peter Slutsky

Exit polls mean nothing at this point, so these exit numbers should be taken with a grain of salt. But…here they are.

From Political Wire:

CNN reports corruption was the number most important issue to voters who responded to exit surveys. Early Senate numbers (uncomfirmed and with caveats):

Democrats are leading in Rhode Island (+7), Virginia (+7), Pennsylvania (+15), Ohio (+14), New Jersey (+8), Montana (+9), Missouri (+2).

Republicans are leading in Tennessee (+4) and Arizona (+4).

Interviewing Gov. Corzine

September 23rd, 2006 by Peter Slutsky

We just got finished the interview with Gov. Jon Corzine (D-NJ). It went well. It was a quick pull-aside, so we didn’t have much time to get deep into the issues, but we’ll include this interview in our NJ show, which should be up tomorrow.

Gov. Corzine was speaking at the New Jersey NAACP convention, so we touched on some race related issues in our interview.

On a funny note, we were waiting for a friend outside of the hotel to go grab some lunch when Republican Senate candidate Tommy Kean Jr. rolled in, presumably to speak to convention goers.

I jumped out of the minivan, cannon camera in hand and started flashing photos of candidate Kean as he got our of his car.

His body man, some young college kid drew his arms (camera) and started taking pictures of the DoubleSpeak minivans license plate. Got Paranoia?

Tracking The Tracker

They are freaking out. I guess when you base your entire campaign on lies, smears and fiction, you should be a little bit paranoid as you travel your home state.

We’re going to coat our stomachs with some Indian food and then we’ll head into Brooklyn for a night of production and friends.

Remember to check out Flickr to see up-to-the-minute pictures of our travels. When the new website is live, you’ll be able to access these pictures on the DoubleSpeak site.

It’s Morning Again In America

September 23rd, 2006 by Peter Slutsky

Day 5
9:08 AM ET.

Saturday morning. Most people are enjoying their breakfast, reading the New York Times or getting ready for their favorite college football team to play.

Not us. We are slowly waking up, getting showered and packed and heading out to meet the Governor of the great Garden State, Jon Corzine.

Like most campaign staff across the nation, we no longer have a weekend, it will all mesh into one hard, but rewarding work week.

We want to publicly thank our gracious hosts in Jersey, Tara and Anita. Due to our need to be up until 1am producing quality online radio, we kept you awake. Sorry. We left some pizza in the fridge for you.

We finished our first on the road episode last night and it will be up shortly! Enjoy your day. More from me later.

Goodnight, Y’all

September 22nd, 2006 by Matthew Slutsky

Day 5
12:17 AM ET.

So tired, ready to lay my head down. What a day…two interviews in Jersey, a delicious quesadilla for lunch, and I got to see a good friend who I haven’t seen in a long time.

All in all, not bad. Not bad at all.

BORN TO RUN!

September 22nd, 2006 by Matthew Slutsky

Day 3
1:29 PM ET.

Yes, we’ve hit New Jersey! That’s right, I am staying in the car when we gas up because we’re in the Garden State!

Pretty good morning. We met an awesome State Assemblyman named Joe Cryan and did an interview in at the State House in Trenton, NJ. He’s the NJ Democrat State Party Chairman and had great insight into the races here in New Jersey and around the country.

We had our first major “incident” this morning when Peter slammed Josh’s finger in the car door. Josh reacted calmly to the incident, rest assured.

Oh well, I’m sure we’ll have plenty more “incidents” along the way.

Stopping at a Burlington Coat Factory to try and replace a bunch of the clothing that was stolen from our van when it was broken into the other night.

I love you all.

Beautiful Jersey

September 22nd, 2006 by Joshua Skaroff

Day 4
1:17 PM ET.

Over the course of this trip we’re going to drive on quite a few historical and beautiful roads. Route 1 in New Jersey, however, is not one these famous thoroughfares. Gas is quite cheap though and the van is happy.

We just finished up with NJ State Democratic Party Chair and Assemblyman, Joe Cryan. It was a bit different than what we’ve doing in the past few days, sitting in his office in the State Capitol building instead of out at a campaign event, but Joe is a great guy who put the boys immediately at ease. There were jokes flying all around. Admittedly, we’re getting a bit backed up on episodes, but we’ve got lots of work to do and should have a PA episode up tomorrow and NJ sometime this weekend.

Interviewing Joe Cryan

I think I’ve figured out the details of sharing the internet while we’re in the car, but power seems to be an issue. A quick list of what we have to charge on a daily basis: 2 blackberries, a Treo, a MacBook, 2 Dells, 3 iPods, the portable audio recorder, 2 digital cameras, and a video camera. It’s tough being connected all the time.

Finally, we’ve had our first injury of the trip. Peter slammed my finger in the door. You can send him your criticisms at peter@doublespeakshow.com.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia

September 20th, 2006 by Matthew Slutsky

Day 2
2:49 PM ET.

We’re still in downtown Philly- about to release Episode 10 on Net Neutrality. It’s been a great day- we were up at 6:00 AM to drive to Bristol, PA to interview Patrick Murphy.

We have been reaching-out to folks in New Jersey, Connecticut and beyond to book some great interviews. So far we’ve gotten a great reaction from the campaigns we’ve spoken to.

We are preparing for an interview with a political activist from downtown who’s going to talk to us about why Radical Rick Santorum is such a wacko.
