Harry Reid and “Intervention” Politics

December 14th, 2009 by Matthew Slutsky

Anyone watch the show “Intervention” on A&E? It’s my second favorite show, after Hoarders.

I think Sen. Reid needs to have the same conversation with Sen. Joe Lieberman that Jeff VanVonderen has with junkies each week as they enter the room, surprised to see their family and friends gathered for an intervention. To help him along, here are some thoughts on how this should go down:

“Hey Joe…don’t run out. There are a lot of people here in this room who love you a lot and who want to fight to get you back. All we’re asking is that you join the fight. We do need you to know that if you continue on this path towards destruction, we aren’t going to be able to support you anymore and your life will change in the following ways:

1. You will be stripped of your seniority in the United States Senate;
2. You will no longer be the Chairman of anything including your Condo Board Association;
3. Your office will be moved to the basement/smallest office available (I’m not kidding);
4. You will no longer be allowed to take part in any caucus meetings with Democrats and you will only hear about our initiatives via Politico.com.;
5. You will have zero support from any of the party infrastructure in any future election in which you run. None. Zero. Not a dollar. Not an email. Nothing.;
6. I will personally add false information to your Wikipedia page suggesting that you were involved in an orgy with Tiger Woods.

So, Joe…what are you going to do?”

And, scene.

Thank you Sen. Harry Reid for kicking this war criminal’s ass.

Harry Reid: Dead Wrong

December 18th, 2006 by Matthew Slutsky

I was extremely disappointed to watch Harry Reid endorse the Bush/Rumsfeld/ISG policy of dumping thousands more troops into Iraq to referee the Civil War. Harry Reid, the incoming Senate Majority Leader, seems to not have gotten the message. Colin Powell has. I am not a military expert, and I have.

There is no military solution or “victory” in Iraq.

Anyone, Republican or Democrat, who decides to now trust the President after years of his criminal lying and deceit is someone who isn’t paying close enough attention.

Brave men and women in the Armed Forces have served ably and at every moment fulfilled their duties and responsibilities. Due to poor planning on the part of our military officers and a historic set of lies cooked by Bush, Powell, and others, we lost the effort.

When you’re in a hole, dig yourself out. By dropping thousands more troops in Baghdad and its surrounding provinces, who’s to say the insurgents in Iraq, who already outnumber Coalition forces, won’t just up the ante and activate thousands more killers to patrol the streets and neighborhoods of Iraq?

After years of failure and deception the only responsible thing to do is pull the vast majority of troops out of the region. That means every soldier who is currently driving a truck through the IED-laced Baghdad should be home with their families. It means that every brave soldier sent out on a midnight mission to track down insurgents who never appear where “intelligence” says they’ll be will come home. Iraqi’s can drive the trucks and run the midnight missions to take control of their country.

This is not a cut and run strategy. All essential special forces and military trainers should stay for a very specific amount of time and after that point should also leave to be home with their families.

As long as politicians like Bush, Cheney, and even some Democrats keep speaking as though “victory” can be achieved, we will continue to fail in Iraq. We are just days away from 2007 and we must face the facts. The war is over, it’s time to being them home.

Harry Reid is dead wrong on this and history will judge him and our Party for his position. I hope and pray every single minute these days that this war will end and that Bush and his thugs will listen to the will of the American people.

Bush has failed as a President. He has hurt our nation deeply and our next test will be to clean up the mess that has been created on many fronts and restore our nation’s ability to lead in the world.

The eyes of the nation are now on the Democratic leadership. At a time when our country needs them desperately they must stand proud and firm against this war and make good on recent promises to bring our troops home and end Bush’s failed war in Iraq.

Harry Reid’s In Charge

November 15th, 2006 by Peter Slutsky

The soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) will pressure President Bush to answer the tough questions on his ’stay the course’ Iraq strategy.

America, we are in better hands now. I hope the Democrats can step up and find a solution to this war to get our brave troops home as soon as possible. President Bush and the GOP Congress lost this war (not the troops, the politicians) and now it is up to the Democrats to save the day.

I believe the GOP will fall into political obscurity for many years to come. They are the feeble minded party that was faced with the challenges of the new world order following September 11, 2001 and they have failed this country and the world.

George W. Bush: worst President in American history.

What Democrats Stand For

May 12th, 2006 by Peter Slutsky

Sen. Harry Reid

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV):

Walking into the Chamber today, I was asked by someone: Tell us what you stand for. I think, rather than what I stand for, what we stand for as a minority, it is who we stand for. I think that is the direction we should be focusing: Who do we stand for?

There are lots of people we stand for. We stand for parents with no health care. We stand for those people with maladies who are crying out for some research on stem cells so we can move forward finding cures for these diseases–Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetes.

We stand for children who are attending failing schools because the Bush administration refuses to put money into the schools that needs it. It is reported today that very soon there will be 10,000 schools in America that will be failing. I don’t think that speaks well. Why are they failing? It is because of this Leave No Child Behind Act that the President pushed so hard.

We stand for the soccer mom who, today, someplace, is going to fill up her vehicle with gasoline and find the price is prohibitive. Rather than filling up her tank, she will fill it half full, enough to get through maybe the rest of this week, because the cost of gasoline is so high.

We stand for the high school graduates putting off being able to go to college because they simply can’t afford the tuition. During the last 5 1/2 years of this administration, college costs have gone up 40 percent. Student aid has been cut. Pell grants have been cut.

We stand for the guardsman who is concerned because he has been called back for the second tour of duty in Iraq. Reading the Washington Post today, I find that two Nevada soldiers were killed in Iraq yesterday, both from Las Vegas, a 46-year-old man and a 26-year-old man–killed yesterday.
