Kweisi Mfume is the former President/CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), as well as a five-term Democratic Congressman from Maryland’s 7th District (serving in Congresses 100 – 104). He is currently engaged in a primary campaign for the United States Senate seat recently vacated by Maryland Senator Paul Sarbanes. The Maryland Senate primary will be held September 12, 2006.

He has conducted education policy research for the Albert Shanker Institute, worked on federal workforce issues as a fellow with the Partnership for Public Service, and was most recently a writer/researcher for the progressive media watchdog group Media Matters for America. Originally from Maine, Cluchey enjoys lobster, sailing, and taking lobsters sailing.
